Bacon Scented Bacon Print Tuxedo

From the website: “Each Tuxedo is tailored from chemically treated latex print fabric in one of four different sizes. Best of all, it smells just like bacon sizzling in the pan.”

Basically, for approximately $100, you can wear bacon AND smell like it too?

hahaha i don’t know what to laugh harder at, the concept behind this product or the photo.

Fall and comfort food go hand in hand

Freemans

Chef:  Michael Citarella

Fall has arrived in New York:  I took my air conditioner out of the window, I added an extra blanket on my bed and I now wear a coat and scarf on my daily commutes.  What goes better with fall than good ole comfort food?

Last night I met two friends at Freemans restaurant.  The place has a warm rustic lodge feeling with stuffed game animals on the walls and a fireplace in one of the several small dining rooms; if Paul Bunyan had a home, this restaurant is what I would imagine it looked like. We nestled into one of the corners with a nice glass of red and soon the food came parading across our table, one more warm and hearty than the next.

We shared two appetizers.  The ever popular artichoke dip with crusty bread.

The artichoke dip is the most popular item on the menu and when you taste it, you will know why. The crock arrives with a crusty layer of cheese on top and is warm and gooey just below with large chunks of artichoke embedded within the cheese.

We also got the spinach salad with mushroom, boiled egg, bacon, pine nuts and mustard vinaigrette.  We had to have some veggies with our meal right? (even if it did incorporate bacon)

Crunchy bits of bacon and toasted pine nuts added a nice textural contrast to the soft boiled egg and buttery spinach.  It’s a very tasty and savory salad.

For my main course, I had the slow roasted heritage pork with cooked cabbage.  The generous portion of pork melted off at the touch of my fork and sat on a bed of slawed and stewed cabbage simmering in a sweet spiced red sauce.  Ah the taste of fall.

I’ve visited Freemans on many occassions and the food is always comforting and hearty. Reservations are not accepted and since the word has been out, the wait can be long. Either get there early or expect to wait…which isn’t so bad since the people watching is great.

Told ya

Happened to be in Koreatown yesterday after work and picked up some Korean groceries and also made sure to grab a bag of goodness: hot and garlic Shrimp Chips.

Told ya, I love em and eat em.
