No, there isn’t raw fish in these Rice Krispies treats, just good old fashioned marshmallows, Swedish Fish candies, and Fruit by the Foot (or Fruit Roll-Ups).

Cup Noodle Vending Machine:

Instant noodle maker Nissin is giving away these vending machines as a promotional campaign.
“It’s small enough to fit on a counter top, and includes a hot water thermos and storage for up to four Cup Noodle bowls with a dispenser. It even has an automatic timer that’ll beep when three minutes is up and your food is ready to eat.” (link)
Couple thoughts: 1) this is one way to complicate a really easy just add water and wait 3 minutes insta meal and 2) who eats FOUR cups of these noodle bowls? and who eats them often enough to warrant having one of these?

UPDATE: I found a “how to” video
Guess the fake vending machine:

Aya Tsukioka, a Japanese experimental fashion designer, has developed a line of camouflage for crime worried citizens. The designs include soda and vending machines, fire extinguisher bookbags for kids, and even a purse that resembles a manhole.

I’m sorry I totally snorted laughing when I saw this. (esp that poor kid forced to pose with his face towards the bushes!) Those better be some damn stupid muggers….

Better late than never I say (and I’m sure you have all been waiting with baited breath. Ha!). So here’s the dinner I served my family Xmas day and promised to post pictures of.
I started with an appetizer of puff pastry cups stuffed with spinach sauteed with garlic and shallots, crispy bacon, blue cheese and dried cranberries. Quite delicious if I must say so myself!!

For main, I did my version of “surf and turf”: filet mignon with lump meat crab cakes.
I seared the filet mignon in a cast iron pan to hold in the juices and finished them off in the broiler. I sauteed some sliced mushrooms and deglazed the pan with some dry sherry. To serve, I topped the steaks with the mushrooms and a sprinkle of gorgonzola.

Here are the crab cakes. I made sure to have 80 percent crab meat…that’s the best kind of crab cake.

Sides were a butter lettuce and apple salad

…and haricot vert sauteed in garlic and butter. Yeah, I kinda burned the garlic (oops) but I made sure not to overcook the greens. They still retained a nice crunch.

Everyone thought the meal was delicious. Too bad I dont have a larger kitchen here in NYC. I’d cook and entertain more often. I really do enjoy cooking as much as I enjoy eating and blogging about it.
Cheers!
