Pub Crawl

Wikipedia defines “Pub Crawl” to mean “A pub crawl (sometimes called a bar tourbar crawl or bar-hopping) is the act of one or more people drinking in multiple pubsor bars in a single night.”

The Hungry Korean defines Pub Crawl to mean last night….

Last night, Cookie Monster and I met up with Breakfast Burrito and Dirty Loofah very early at the Spotted Pig. April Bloomfield’s restaurant is based on an English gastroPUB and serves comforting PUB-style food in a very homey setting. Glories of the food have been heard all through New York so there is rarely a time where you can walk into the restaurant and be immediately seated. Waits can be upwards to two and half hours at peak.

The four of us literally crawled through the entire PUB style menu. PUB crawl. :)

We started with a variety of appetizers.

The very delicious deviled eggs:

Slightly vinegary, creamy and topped generously with chopped chives. This is considered a must have.

The bacon wrapped dates:

I’m not really one to mix my savory and sweet and was not a fan of this. The dates were mushy, sweet and overpowered the bacon flavor believe it or not. There’s also a sticky sweet coating drenching these mouthfuls. People love them I hear.

A delicious puff pastry covered with salty proscuitto and cool ricotta cheese:

This was more tasty than I imagined. The puff pastry was light and crispy and the contrast between the creamy ricotta and the thin sliced proscuitto was amazing. I would for sure order this on a return visit.

The other famous thing Spotted Pig is known for, Sheep’s milk cheese gnudi (or as Dirty Loofah calls them “noni”):

Very rich. Surprisingly fluffy fried balls of cheese are dressed lovingly with sage butter. The flavors are great but one is enough for me – as you can imagine, each bite is a pretty dense combo of cheese, butter and cream. Breakfast Burrito and Cookie Monster were all over these. It’s their fave.

Marinated mozzarella balls:

Served with a side of buttered toast these were fine but nothing special. I actually used the bread from this plate for my very delicious and delectable chicken liver toasts!

SO YUM. These were the best chicken livers I have ever had. So rich, so smooth and well flavored. They heap the chicken liver on these perfectly toasted triangles.  Cookie Monster never eats liver but after a bite of this, he actually helped himself to one entire half! That is testament to how delicious this is. Wow.

For main course, Breakfast Burrito and Dirty Loofah got the special pork chop and declared it to be the juiciest chop they’ve ever had.

Cookie Monster and I got the Spotted Pig blue cheese burger (with the cheese on the side):

The bun is grilled but retains it softness which I liked. The burger is juicy at a perfect medium rare and well seasoned. Thank god I put the cheese on the side cuz with blue cheese, a little goes a long way. The fries are tossed with alot of salt, rosemary and fried garlic chips. What a beautiful duo. People say this is one of the best burgers in the city. I still think Shake Shack is the best but this burger is not far behind.

Boy was I stuffed. That’s one way to break a fast!

We finished off with rhubarb pie and flourless chocolate cake.

See…pub crawled through the entire menu. :)
