Blue Ribbon Sushi

Saturday night found Cookie Monster and I meeting up with Page Six and two of her friends for a bite to eat. Page Six even left the comfort of her West Village apt to visit us up near Columbus Circle!! :)  We were craving sushi so we suggested Blue Ribbon.

I love Blue Ribbon Sushi. The food is always delicious and the sushi always fresh.  We were seated in a booth and the eating began.

Since we were a group of five, we just ordered a bunch of food for the table and shared. We started with two orders of the edamame:

You know what I realized, I’m not a huge fan of ordering edamame at Japanese restaurants.  The main reason is, although they are tasty and great finger food, it’s just uninteresting to me as it’s something that’s so easy to make at home. You get frozen edamame at your local grocery, steam or boil, add some sea salt and voila!

We also shared two appetizers: pork shumai and the ever delicious rock shrimp tempura

The pork shumai were very good but the rock shrimp tempura is DELICIOUS! They are airy and light with a hint of salt and a nice crunch. It was very hard to not keep popping them in my mouth but there were other people at the table I had to share with.

Here is the boat of sushi we got for five:

I can’t remember which preset sushi platter we ordered but we got that and added a couple more sashimi and sushi. It’s a lot of sushi but not enough (in my opinion) for five people. Cookie Monster and I could have eaten more but we didn’t want to keep adding onto the receipt not knowing what the others wanted to do.  But once again, the sushi did not fail us.

I realized sushi is not made for big groups unless everyone is willing to set an unlimited budget of sorts and ok with everyone just ordering what they want, when they want. It was hard to be polite and know what other people ate, what other people didnt, etc and it’s not like the sushi bar is going to serve up equal servings of each fish per person. It just doesn’t work that well. I’m gonna leave sushi eating to just parties of 2.
