Corner Bistro has sort of legendary status among NYC for having one of the best burgers in town. The price is right, the place is a simple no frills bar with more seating in the back and the burgers are just good. The thing is, on any given weekend (or weekday for that matter), a wait for a seat can be long and that’s pretty much why I’ve only had the pleasure of eating here once….and it was half a burger that I gobbled up drunkenly with a friend…standing…at the bar….
Monday night Cookie Monster and I were out for a business related meeting with another couple. The four of us ended up getting along so well we all found ourselves packed into a back booth at 12am with burgers and fries.
The guys got beers but I opted for a nice cool coke…nothing better with burger and fries than a mug of icy coke:
Gotta love the table graffiti….
Here’s their cheeseburger.
It’s cooked medium rare, a nice juicy thick piece, with fresh accoutrements (pickles, raw onions, tomatoes and lettuce). I like my burgers with the works so I used everything they gave me. What deliciousness. One downsize – if you can call it a negative – is the patty was SO juicy the bun started to fall apart. I persevered though and shoved every bit of that burger into my mouth like it was my last meal. Ah the grace I exhibit when I’m buzzed on alcohol AND hungry!
We got two orders of fries to split:
They are cut the size of a McDonald’s fries and not thickly cut steak fries served on a plastic plate. I prefer this type of thin fry over all others except maybe cajun/seasoned fries from KFC or Popeyes….these arrived piping hot and with a generous dousing of salt, they were good to go.
If you like burgers, try Corner Bistro in the West Village. Make a night of it if you have to and have a couple brews while you wait for a table! Food seems to always taste better with a bit of a buzz.
