Walking around the West Village Saturday we popped into August for a late brunch. The restaurant is special because in the back, there is an indoor garden of sorts. What I mean by that is the ceiling is entirely made of glass, sort of like a greenhouse, and diners are eating under visible skies. I love that. Sadly the back room was booked and we had to sit up front.
Cookie Monster got the frittata of the day which had eggs, chorizo, sauteed onions and roasted peppers:
It was good but nothing special to be honest.
I got the croque madame Italien served with a side of arugula salad:
I was surprised to see two slices of thick bread making up my croque madame but it does look quite tasty doesn’t it? When you carved into it, the bread was surprisingly soft and enveloped melted tellegio and salty cured coppa! Yumm. Melty nutty with salty meaty…
Innard shot:
And on my fork!
I did find the copious amount of bread a bit intimidating but eventually I simply took off one slice. I thought the copa worked really well in this type of sandwich even though it was a departure from your traditional ham. It was quite delicious.
Another wonderful meal from August. The dinner is quite good here if I recall…I haven’t been back in many years but intend to come back soon for dinner.
